Get Linked on LinkedIn

Confession. I am a slow adapter of technology. Social media is no exception. I understand the potential and the results that are possible. But for calibration, I remember sitting in a Business School Graduate class in 1991 and hearing about a new thing called the World Wide Web. It would be a cyberspace universe where information and products would flow. I leaned over the person next to me and said, “It will never happen.”

So, I was wrong.

In the last few months I am personally seeing the power of LinkedIn. If you haven’t already created a profile, please check it out at www.linkedin.com. Of all the networking sites, I find it to be easy to navigate, professional and effective. For entrepreneurs and professionals of all types it is a quick way to connect with former colleagues and potential new customers.

In just the past few days I was in touch with three people who were willing to share the Better Day, Better Life story with others and I will be able to reciprocate on their businesses.

So, don’t be like me – get out there and make connections electronically, right away.

Keeping the Thanks in Thanksgiving

I love magazines about decorating and making a home. They are a wonderful source of ideas and inspiration. This year as I have poured over recipes and tips to create the perfect tablescape, it dawned on me that no article has covered the actual topic of giving thanks.

Maybe the writers think it is too obvious to address. But maybe it points to a different issue. Are we so focused on the food and the entertaining that we have forgotten the One to whom we are thankful? Here are a few ideas to keep (or put) the Thanks into Thanksgiving?

  • Instead of place cards, find four to six Bible verses about giving thanks and print them on tent cards. Make enough for all your guests and place one at each setting. Verse Card 2
  • Set up an empty glass or fish bowl and place slips of paper and pens nearby. Ask folks to write something or someone they are thankful for and read these during dinner.
  • Take a moment to gather around the table or buffet to hold hands and pray thanking Christ for His provision and grace through the last year as well as a blessing over the vittles.
  • Savor a private moment, maybe the Wednesday night before the feast to reflect of the first Thanksgiving and how the lessons learned then by God’s grace could be reapplied in your life today.

Grateful Gal,

Kelly

Better…

Many years ago, Spike Lee the movie director turned NY Knicks spokes model, directed a film called Mo Better Blues. I admit that I don’t recall many of the details of the plot, but I do like the phrase, mo better. So I’m borrowing it to describe the purpose of this blog; it’s to encourage readers to pursue a Mo Better Life.

The blog is an extension of the book titled “A Better Day – A Better Life, How to Thrive, One Day at a Time.” The goal is to share ideas and stories that will encourage and inspire you to thrive on a daily basis.

Our focus is broad. We’ll talk about establishing nurturing supportive relationships. We talk about being more productive at work and at home. I include physical fitness as a part of being personally productive. Lastly we’ll include tips to increase our enjoyment of each day.

The foundation for most principles I talk about can be found in the Bible. Hopefully you will be challenged to think deeply and also have moments of laughing out loud. Thanks for reading I hope you will subscribe and comment often.
